The range of DVD rental titles available at DVDAvenue is around 9,000 unique titles, which although huge compared to your local video store, look a little less impressive when compared to the 50,000 at Netflix or the 30,000+ at GamesnFlicks. Still, if you are looking for an alternative to either of those two services for whatever reason, then DVDAvenue is still a good choice.

The distribution center for these guys is in Maryland, so if you are in the area, you should find they can give you a good turnaround time on rentals/returns which ultimately means more bang for your buck in terms of how many rentals you can watch in a month for the subscription fee.

Speaking of fees, DVDAvenue are not badly priced for their subscriptions but still above the other two main players in this field. A 3 disc monthly rental subscription plan here costs $19.95 for example, whilst at Netflix you will pay just under $18 for the same service or less than $15 at Blockbuster. Neither of these offers video game rentals however so if you are likely to use that part of the service then DVD Avenue may work out to be a much more cost effective choice. Also, if you are close to the distribution center then the extra couple of dollars is probably worth paying for the speedier delivery times.

It's not just movies for rent at DVDAvenue however, as they also have a reasonable collection of Playstion and PS2 titles to rent as well. There's around 400 of these which isn't bad at all for an online rental company.

We emailed DVDAvenue in order to test out the level of customer service and received a courteous email response back later the same day answering all our questions. In addition, we notice they are happy to add titles to their catalogue if you particularly want one they do not currently stock which is a nice touch. Their catalogue of titles might be smaller than some of the big players quote but unless you make a habit of renting out obscure movies or lifestyle DVDs you are unlikely to notice a difference.

DVD Avenue claim they expect deliveries to take around 1 to 3 days if you live in the D.C. Metro area and from 2 to 5 days if you live further afield. By comparison, Netflix claims around 90% of its customers can expect overnight delivery of their rental choices although if you choose a 3 or more rental package you can generally manage your send/return schedule to ensure you have a disc to watch whilst 2 or more are somewhere in the postal system.

In all, DVDAvenue is a nice alternative to some of the bigger boys out there and might be worth your time if they're in your local area or if you want the opportunity to rent video games by mail as well as DVDs.
